While the race was provisionally postponed to April 11, there is a strong possibility the event could be cancelled in its entirety as the Covid-19 pandemic continues to affect sports events across the country. Richards, 88, who swam his first Mile in 1947, would have participated in his 68th River Mile this year and will be hoping the event can go ahead as he looks to add to his Guinness World Record for Participation Longevity in an Open Water Swim. He also received a certificate from the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame in recognition of his achievement.
