Held at the picturesque Marina Martinique in Jeffreys Bay, The 10km swim event, which was also a qualifier for the Olympic trials, drew 30 of the country’s top men and women open water surfers as they battled for the national crown. KwaZulu Natal’s McGlynn held off some stiff competition to finish in a time of one hr, 54 mins and 49 seconds, followed closely by Gauteng’ Hanre  Louw (1:55.04) in second and Phillip Seidler in third (1:55.06) from Namibia. In the women’s race, KZN’s Weber added a sixth national title to her collection as she took victory with her time of 2:06.55,  followed by Gauteng’s Stephanie Houtman (2:07.14) in second and Eastern Cape’s Amica de Jager in third (2:07.47).
